DIY Anti-Wrinkle Cream with Frankincense

FrankincenseAntiWrinkleCream_main

I am a HUGE fan of making your own beauty and skincare products (when the buy vs. DIY makes sense).  This anti-wrinkle cream, which includes the miracle essential oil frankincense, is by far my most favorite moisturizer I have made. I wanted to wait to write this tutorial until I thoroughly tested the product.

I’ve used this moisturizer day and night for about a month now. It takes some time to get used to the feeling of this moisturizer if you’re not used to using oils to cleanse and moisturize. Initially it will feel oily when applied but as you massage your face it absorbs into the skin nicely and as a result, my skin is smoother, clearer, toned, and I have already noticed a difference in the texture and a reduction of fine lines.

In addition to being an awesome moisturizer and wrinkle reducer it also has the added benefits of frankincense, which is known to reduce scars and age spots! Whaaaaaat???!!! Frankincense is useful for skin health, to treat dry skin, reverse signs of aging, and reduce appearance of stretch marks and scars. Along with the physical benefits, frankincense has its own comforting properties and is useful for visualizing, improving one’s spiritual connection and helping overcome stress and despair.

I chose to also add in lavender essential oil to this miracle concoction and here’s why; Lavender is known for its anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal, antidepressant, antiseptic, antibacterial and antimicrobial properties. It is one of the most well-known oils and is known for its beautiful fragrance that instantly calms and soothes the body.

DIY Anti-Wrinkle Cream:
Use a 1:1 ratio of Shea butter to coconut oil. Here are my measurements:

1 oz. Shea Butter (it is best to use 100% Pure unrefined like this one)
1 oz. Organic Coconut Oil (like this Bronner’s coconut oil)
8-10 drops Frankincense Essential Oil*
5-7 drops Lavender Essential Oil*

*I used Young Living Essential Oils for this recipe. You can use others but be sure it is undiluted, 100% pure organic therapeutic-grade oils.

Using a double boiler, melt the Shea butter and coconut oil together until liquid. Remove from heat and let cool for 30-45 minutes. Once cool drop in and stir the frankincense and lavender essential oils. (The mix should have partially solidified) Whip with a hand blender until you achieve a butter-like consistency. Then store in an air tight container that holds at least 3 oz. If kept in an air tight container in a shaded space it should keep for 6-12 months
